Abstract
The purpose of the article is to present the activities of the State Public Library of the Kazakh SSR named after A.S. Pushkin during the Great Patriotic War. Memory about the events of the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War is one of the most important components of the historical consciousness of the peoples of the post-Soviet space. The war changed the specifics of library work, subordinating it to the tasks of promoting armed struggle against Nazi aggression, training the population in military affairs, and supplying literature to evacuated defense enterprises and scientific organizations. Particular attention was paid to library services for military units, recruiting stations and hospitals. Despite all the difficulties of wartime, library work indicators grew. The relevance of the topic is determined by the need for constant work on conceptual understanding, systematization and replenishment of knowledge about the Great Patriotic War.
