The purpose of the article is, basing on the results of studying the experience of interaction between scientific libraries of Siberia and the Far East in the 20th – first decades of the 21st century, to determine trends in the development of libraries, goals and objectives of the State Public Scientific Technological Library of the Siberian Branch (SPSTL SB RAS) when working out the project for the development of multidisciplinary scientific libraries, libraries of scientific institutions and universities in the region in 2025–2030 in accordance with the priority directions of the State scientific, technological, socio-cultural policy of the Russian Federation.
A brief history and dynamics of the formation of the network of libraries of scientific institutions and universities, branch and multidisciplinary libraries in Siberia and the Far East are presented – an important part of the information support of specialists in scientific, educational and industrial complexes. The role of the State Public Scientific Technological Library of the Siberian Branch (SB) of the Academy of Sciences (AS) of the USSR – SB of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN) – the leading multidisciplinary scientific and technological library, an information and methodological center for academic libraries; which was in the 1960s–1990s the coordination center of libraries of scientific institutions, largest universities, industry and central scientific libraries of provinces, territories and republics of the region is examined. In connection with the adoption of a number of legislative acts in 2013–2024 and the transformation of scientific libraries activities, the need to work out and implement the project for the development of multidisciplinary scientific libraries, libraries of scientific institutions and universities in Siberia and the Far East is substantiated.
The study of the conditions for the development of a modern scientific library, which enters into an active dialogue with other subjects of the spatio-temporal environment, seems today to be actual. The purpose of the article is to examine the place and system of interaction of scientific libraries with the components of such complex phenomena as the infosphere and the formation of the common space of scientific knowledge in the modern mental field. An attempt has been made to describe these phenomena in a certain totality and integrity, to consider the features of the development of functions and practices of scientific libraries during the period of active introduction of computer technologies into library activities, their connection with the scientific and educational space. The material of the article bases on the systematic approach and analysis of publications devoted to the development of information infrastructure and a set of concepts reflecting the dynamics of definitions of such phenomena as the infosphere, its connections with the sociosphere and technosphere, and a common space of scientific knowledge.
Scientific libraries evolution is largely related to the technology of reproducing texts, data and methods of their organization, therefore monitoring the document-producing environment and analyzing the completeness and availability of open and licensed sources of scientific information is one of new library communication functions in the changing information structure. The modern library is intensifying its activities, focusing on communications between individual and group needs, which are changing depending on the transformation of research and value priorities of users.
The article is dedicated to the memory of the famous Kazakh historian Professor V. Z. Galiev (25.02.1938–22.06.2017), the author of numerous works on various aspects of the history of Kazakhstan in the late XVII – early XX centuries. The purpose of the article is to elucidate the scientist’s contribution to the study of problems of book and library culture in Kazakhstan. The researches on Russian political exile in Kazakhstan in the 19th century formed the initial core of his scientific interests. The research interest in bibliography, library science, book studies, and history of librarianship in Kazakhstan occupied the special place in his creative work. V. Z. Galiev’s works contributed to the refutation of the thesis about the absence of book and library culture in Kazakhstan in the pre-revolutionary period; they have important methodological significance for modern librarianship researchers.
INFORMATION AND LIBRARY SYSTEMS, RESOURCES AND TECHNOLOGIES
The purpose of the article is to justify the importance and prospects of using various marketing technologies in phygitalization of library services, which we understand as a synthesis of user interaction experience in the physical and digital spaces of the library. The following areas of digital marketing in the library user service are considered: a) search engine optimization (SEO); b) engagement marketing; c) advertising in social networks.We will examine other areas of digital marketing in libraries in the next article. The research uses the following methods: content analysis, conceptual modeling, comparative analysis, problematization. Use of digital marketing will allow library administrators to implement more effectively digital transformation plans at the national or regional levels. We suppose that at the present stage of the digital society formation, each library must bring its services, policies and procedures in line with the requirements of the time, or rather, the digital transformation of libraries and its component such as phygitalization of library user services.
The purpose of the article is to present the history of activities and conditions of formation of the depository collection of the Central Scientific and Technical Library (CSTL) of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information (ISTI) of the Donetsk People’s Republic, to substantiate the necessity of research on the thematic direction "Coal Industry of Donbass" and to develop the methodological approach to its monitoring, scientific and thematic structuring.
CSTL is the oldest and the only specialized scientific and technical library in Donbass, which has the collection, related to the industrial specifics of the region. The library activity during the military conflict practically stopped since 2014 and resumed only in 2022 with the transition of the Donetsk People’s Republic to the Russian Federation. Due to the need to integrate CSTL into the library space of Russia and improve the efficiency of the library work with users, a set of works on accounting, preservation, scientific and thematic structuring of collections, as well as digitalization of the library resources is in demand.
The article describes the history of the formation of CSTL depository collection and the peculiarities of the library activity. The methodical approach to monitoring, scientific and thematic structuring of the collection on the direction "Coal Industry of Donbass" is proposed and the results of the work done are presented.
The advisory bibliographic resource (ABR) is one of reliable ways of transiting experience, knowledge and skills from one generation to another. The question about bibliographic resources, satisfying needs in educational and self-educational reading, though being in elaboration for a long time, has not been solved finally yet. It is supposed, that any purposeful activity, realized by means of books and going out the frames of educational establishments, makes up the essence of self-educational activity, with ABR being the foothold for it. ABR, aimed at informal education of readers should be of special importance.
The purpose of the article is to present the results of the study on the development and evaluation of the effectiveness of ABR, created according to the modern model. Science and society communication models that influenced the creation of modern ABR are briefly characterized, and a double-sided model of their creation is proposed. The comparative analysis of the current (one-sided) and new model of ABR creation has been conducted. The results of the pedagogical experiment on evaluating the effectiveness of ABR, created according to the double-sided model and affecting the established areas of communication between science and society (education, understanding, participation) are presented. During the experiment, conducted using the questionnaire method, it has been stated that handling of ABR, created for to disseminate scientific knowledge according to the double-sided model, contributes to an increase in the level of readers’ awareness.
The purpose of the article is to present the results of the Central Scientific Agricultural Library (CSAL) work for the creation of an online resource navigator on agriculture, food industry, fisheries and forestry, veterinary medicine.
The “Navigator for remote network resources on agricultural topics” formed in 2009 by a purpose-built procedure is regularly updated and replenished. It provides general information about sites, that place data on farming, food and processing industry and an inline link to the resource website. In the updating process, sites that stopped working are deleted, information about sites is supplemented and/or updated; annual monitoring of the industry-specific web space is carried out in order to identify new sites on agricultural topics. Russian and foreign sites selected to be included into the Navigator are described. The layout in the navigator is systematic, in accordance with the Specialized Rubricator on Agriculture and Food. This allows the user to find easily the necessary information and the Internet resources for individual agribusiness industries and topics.
The resource is presented on the site of CSAL in a free and open accessed data basis, promoting fast and various search.
BOOK HERITAGE AND BOOK CULTURE
The purpose of this article is to present the experience of the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts of the Research Library of Tomsk State University in selecting a platform for virtual exhibitions and creating them. An overview of previous virtual exhibitions created with the participation of the department employees is provided, and a working algorithm for preparing them is outlined. Chosen by the library staff as a tool (the Tilda website builder) and the long read format allows to create an electronic resource based on a written narrative (biography, event description, etc.), including visual materials, multimedia, background information, and links to additional resources. This allows the authors of virtual exhibitions to provide detailed information about the subject, as well as various digitized or online resources hosted in the Electronic Library of Tomsk State University or the “PRO Siberia” platform.
The article describes some aspects of libraries work to promote the national book heritage. It examines the book culture as a special phenomenon that ensures preservation of intellectual and spiritual traditions of the past and determines their adaptation to the system of modern communications, since the book was highly appreciated at all times and among all peoples as a monument of spiritual and material culture. It also presents promising areas of innovative methods for promoting the book heritage, including digital technologies, which are currently among the priority areas of activity of many social and cultural institutions.
The purpose of the article is to review some library practices for organizing work with book monuments, describe the form and present promising areas for promoting book heritage in domestic libraries, including using digital technologies, which are currently among the priority areas of many social and cultural institutions. The article also bases on the materials provided by the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan (NL RT). The National Library has the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books including the sector of Tatar and Oriental Literature with a group of the Consolidated Catalog of Tatar Books (1722–1917) and the sector of Russian and World Literature. This specialized department carries out scientific processing of publications and work to ensure safety of rare and especially valuable documents, including handwritten and old-printed Tatar and oriental books in Arabic script, ancient Russian books, editions of national and local history literature.
In order to promote the unique book heritage, the Department of Manuscripts and Rare Books forms special collections of manuscripts, rare books, periodicals, albums and other written and printed documents, conducts studies in the field of the national book history, as well as scientific, methodological and publishing activities.
The purpose of the article is to present the joint work of the Highest Approved Standing Commission for the Organization of Public Readings and the General Staff on recommendation of publications recognized as relevant to the goals of primary education and moral training of lower ranks. The interaction of these structures was traced from the moment of receiving publications by the Military Scientific Committee of the General Staff up to sending to the Permanent Commission circulars with concrete indication of publications recommended and admitted to the troops. The identified interaction algorithm, in addition to the named initial and final stages, included the following sequence of actions: the selection of necessary publications; payment of invoices for selected publications; approval of editions by the General Staff; their recommendation to circulation in the troops through the circulars. The recommended publications in each circular of the General Staff and their total number were counted. Catalogs of books in soldiers’ libraries were analyzed for presence of publications recommended by circulars. When correlated with each other: 1) lists of publications of the Standing Commission and their availability in the circulars of the General Staff; 2) lists of recommended publications and their presence in the soldiers’ libraries catalogs of books made it possible to identify the results of the joint work. The study is of great practical importance, since the experience of interaction between the General Staff and the Standing Commission can be useful today for cooperation of the military department with institutions and organizations of other departments.
In 2024, we meet the 140th anniversary of birth of Grigory Alexandrovich Vereshchagin, the head of the Leningrad Military Library of the Workers and Peasants’ Red Army (RKKA), which today bears the name “Information Historical and Scientific Center – Military Historical Library of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”.
The biography of G. A. Vereshchagin, who headed the Library from 1924 to 1934, actually preserved it in the difficult post-revolutionary years and strengthened its position as one of the central libraries of the Military Department, was not previously been the subject of special study. The purpose of the article is to present, based on the results of the reconstruction of G. A. Vereshchagin’s life and professional path, his contribution to the formation and development of the Library in the Soviet period of national history.
As a result of the analysis of a wide source base, previously unknown facts of G. A. Vereshchagin’s life related to his studies, military service, and activities as the head of the Leningrad Military Library of the Red Army were established.
Some aspects of the history of the Library headed by him were revealed: dates and procedure for its reorganizations in 1924-1932, sources of replenishment of collections, the most important of which were the State Book Stock and the Obligatory Copy of military literature, which entered the Library in 1925-1930. It is shown that the main activities of G. A. Vereshchagin as the director of the Library were: the formation of library collections, the organization of work on the creation of alphabetical and systematic catalogs, the development of the classification scheme of the Military Department of the Library.
For the first time, archival documents related to G. A. Vereshchagin’s life and work are introduced into the scientific circulation, the history of his ex-libris creation is revealed.
