Brief review on the history of translating Russian and foreign classics into the Altai language is given. Altai Republican National Library named after M. V. Chevalkov activity in popularizing literature in the Altai language and increasing reader’s interest to the literature in translation is considered.

Novosibirsk state regional scientific library holds the collection of books from Kolyvan- Voskresensk mining plants. This collection includes lifetime (1711–1765) editions of Mikhail Lomonosov’s works. The article provides the thematic characteristic of copies preserved. It examines different signs (such as holder’s recordings, library stamps and notes), representing various periods in the history of public existence of these books. Special attention is paid at the publications that had a great impact on the development of mining in Siberia.

For the first time the history of creation and activity of the Circle of Defenders of the Fortress Port Arthur and the attached library are presented based on pre-revolutionary sources. Reports of the Circle of Defenders’ Council for the period from December 2, 1906 up to November 13, 1913, concerning the library activity and editions it possessed, devoted to the Russian-Japanese war of 1904-1905, are analyzed.

The course of privatization of state-owned printing enterprises in the period of 2008–2017 is presented as well as its consequences in Siberia and the Far East. The characteristic of the most promising areas of modernization and diversification of printing houses in the situation of reduction of total volume of publishing products output is given.

In the international standardization on the direction “documentation and informatics”, including librarianship, an active process of revising standards in force is taking place. In the renovated wordings of international standards, tendencies of document environment evolution reflect themselves through description of partnership modes between libraries and partner organizations, means of supplying users with information products and services. The main trend of international standardization is the revision of outdate standards and the inclusion of objects descriptions and technologies of the electronic environment, renovation of standards in force, development of new documents for innovative directions of library activities – that is what the article is aimed at.

The results of examining sites of scientific organizations of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences are given. Particular attention is paid at siting information about the library and its activities, providing search capabilities in electronic catalogs and databases of libraries, informing about remote resources.

The article, dedicated to the Fundamental Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan activities, considers main directions of its work in the XXI cent., defines its role in scienti fic and technical development.

Scientific- technological progress heightened speed and production updating objectively determine the demand for the qualified staff in different employment areas. Workers of any rank must possess skills, creative potential and ability to realize it. Knowledge, information and commercial idea alongside with other resources act as factors of value growth added to the created product. By providing the necessary competitiveness and profit, intellectual resources become the innovation area subjects’ intellectual capital.

Issues of assessing the quality of electronic information services of libraries are considered. The importance of taking into account consumer requirements for information services for managing the quality of customer service is noted. The concept of the quality of library information service is characterized as an applied concept related to the requests and expectations of the user to whom the service is provided. Consumer requirements for electronic information services, highlighted by library and information specialists, as well as specialists in the field of qualimetry, are described.

Open access as a new model of scientific information dissemination affects the changing role of academic libraries in scientific research information support. The results of the data analysis collected during the 2017 online survey allows us to indicate the preferences of scientists and the difficulties they face when using open access resources, to draw conclusions about the promising areas of academic libraries work with open access resources.

The essay designates information models of texts. The formal features of basic information models – functional- stylistic and functional- semantic – are specified. Particular attention is paid at special models of professional texts of articles on library and information topics, reflecting genre, composition and content features. Stressed is an important role of information modeling for teaching professionals-non-philologists copyright skills.

The authors study the experience of foreign libraries (especially of USA and Canada) in rendering information services to the professional medical community. Publications on this item from 1980-es up to present times are the material for the analysis. As an example of successful interaction between foreign libraries and physicians, the following models are listed as “clinical librarianship”, ”embedded librarianship”, research information management.
