SUMMARIES, REVIEWS, DISCUSSIONS
Digital information technologies’ rapid development over the recent decade has made the smartphone an integral part of the modern user’s life, turning this gadget into a means for instant information acquisition anywhere and anytime, therefore, library, as one of its most important sources, strives to use mobile technologies as efficiently as possible in the process of providing information to users, including by creating adapted versions of websites for smartphones or mobile applications. The purpose of the work is to determine, basing on domestic and foreign sources, as well as data from the Internet sites where mobile applications are presented, which software products meet the needs of library users, what their peculiarity and advantages and disadvantages are like. The absence of detailed domestic studies based on usability testing, which could have provided more complete information about the requirements for library mobile applications, is noted. The basic criteria used to form the first idea of the value of the presented product as well as the tools allowing to collect more detailed information about its applicability are listed. Based on the selected 35 applications, a list of options that are most popular with developers has been composed, and on the app stores, that provide information about user ratings and reviews, functions that are significant for users have been identified. The paper supports the idea that the development of a mobile application cannot be considered an obligatory requirement, it is noted that when planning its creation, the library should take into account a number of objective factors, for example, the availability of sufficient resources, valuable content, as well as social, educational and gender characteristics of its target audience.
The article is about the evolution of reference service models in US libraries, starting with the development of a theoretical concept in the first half of the nineteenth century and ending with innovative models of today. The author’s object is to consider the main approaches to the organization of reference services, to give the description of the most common models, and to describe examples of their practical implementation in public and university libraries in the USA. The article reveals how reference librarians are trying to rethink, re-equip and modernize reference services with the help of experiments and initiatives for information interaction with users. The reference desk in the article is marked as the main “stumbling block” on the way to an ideal SBO model. A number of researchers believe that with the increase in the volume of available information and technological innovations, the previous organizational model hinders the effective use of library staff. The development of a reference service concept capable of providing an innovative competitive position that meets the future expectations of reference services users continues to be a key problem in the era of digitalization.
There exist many problems challenging the translator of literature for children. On the one hand, the obligatory condition is an exact transformation of the sense and idea of the work of literature. On the other hand, the translator should avoid “formal word-for-word”. Besides, it is impossible to “take liberties” with the text of the original. The translation must be sated with the national colour of the original, which could permit any speaking another language reader to conceive style peculiarities of the author being translated. This article is about the relevance and importance of translated foreign literature for children in Uzbekistan in the period of 1991–2021. The author has chosen for the analysis books for children, issued at the initiative of the center of Asian culture with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republics of Central Asia. The article also analyzes the translated fiction for children, published on the pages of the journal “Jahon adabiyoti” (The World Literature). The author focuses attention on works which: are original in content, have a communicative effect, contribute to broadening horizons of young readers and enrich their spiritual world. Using the example of translated into Uzbek foreign literature for children, the author tries to find an answer to the question: what is remarkable and actual in translated literature for children in the space of intercultural interaction. Problems of the relevance and importance of translated literature for children, were discussed at the International Scientific Conference “The 12th Makushin Readings” (Tyumen, May 25-27, 2021).
