Abstract

The Scientific Library of the Russian Academyof Arts is one of the most important specialized art libraries in Russia. The formation of its library collections began almost immediately after the decree of the Senate on the creation of the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. One of the first collections transferred to the Academy of Arts, along with the famous collection of I. I. Shuvalov, was the collection of books of the first presidentof the Academy of Arts, Ivan Ivanovich Betsky. According to the “Catalogue of books of the Imperial Academy of Arts”, compiled by the artist, academic inspector K. I. Golovachevsky in 1773, on behalf of Betsky in 1765, 69 titles of publications in 85 volumes were transferred to the Academy. The inventory was compiled entirelyin Russian, including the names of authors and titles of foreign publications, which greatly hampered the process of identifying books.Working with archival sources, online resources of foreign libraries and library catalogs madeit possible to compile an extended inventory of books with original titles and library codes. To date, the study of the collection of I. I. Betskyis at the stage of reconciliation with the inventory. The purpose of this article is to raise the issueof a comprehensive study of personal collections in the stock of the Scientific Library of the Russian Academy of Arts, and, on the example of the collection of I. I. Betsky, of the need to develop this field of library research. The published materials represent one from the methods of work on identifying individual collections: to compile according to the documents the historical reconstruction, being the base of the search for publications in the stock, carried out further, and give the general component characteristics of the collection under analysis.

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to reveal the communicative component of library’s activities within the framework of its participation in science and society communication (CSS) in Russian realities. The experience of popularizing science available in the practice of libraries does not allow us to declare its involvementin the processes of CSS. It needs critical refl tion and adaptation to the modern information and communication environment; an assessment of the effectiveness of the library as a participant is required.

The article presents theoretical aspectsof library’sfunctions as CSS participants.Institutional characteristics are considered andanalyzed from the point of view of communicativefunction and communication processesoccurring in various social fields; and communicativepractices implemented by the library –with the provisions of the types of social communication(verbal, documentary, electronic). The library has obvious opportunities for implementationas a member of CSS, first of all, beingan element of documentary communications, itcan create an information environment, providingreaders with the high-quality reliablecontent; participate in forming the cognitiveactivity of readers and encourage and supporttheir self-education activities, including throughoral and hybrid forms of interaction, andinclusion in the electronic environment significantlyexpands the communication capabilities of libraries.

The prospects for the participation of libraries in CSS as an intermediary are justified by the fact that they have their own contingent, platforms and specific technologies of communication impact. Hypothetically, libraries can use all existing forms and formats of CSS events, combining, expanding and supplementing them with their own (traditional and innovative), where a specialist – scientist, writer, scientifi journalist, scientifi communicator – will actas a popularizer. Thus, optimal conditions canbe establishing to satisfy people`s cognitive interest that forms the modern scientifi state and stimulate them to receive new scientific knowledge throughout their lives.

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze and evaluate the activities of the Interlibrary Loan sector of the Central Scientific Library of the Federal Research Center “Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences” (CSL FRC KSC SB RAS) for the period of 2017–2021. CSL FRC KSC SB RAS concludes contracts for the provision of interlibrary loan services and electronic delivery of documents with the AllRussian Institute of Scientific and Technical Information RAS, State Public Scientific Technological Library of Russian Federation, State Public Scientific Technological Library of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and with the State Universal Scientific Library of the Krasnoyarsk region. It also plans to cooperate with the Library of Natural Sciences RAS and the Russian State Library. The main indicators analyzed by the author: the number of received and completed orders by the year, their percentage, forms of the ordered information received by the library. Completed orders come from stockholders mainly in the form of electronic copies and originals, in some cases, there come paper copies and links to electronic resources. It is noted that not all structural divisions of the Krasnoyarsk FRC use ILL, – this requires further work on the presentation of the service. The participation of the shared automation center of SPSTL SB RAS in the automation of information and library processes of the Central Scientific Library of the Federal Research Center of the KSC SB RAS is shown. The developed ways to improve the efficiency of the user service in the ILL sector are offered.

Abstract

In order to study the composition and contentof repositories of scientific publications, to identify their functionality, 106 websites of domestic universities – members of the program«Priority-2030» have been monitored. The study has found that only 38% of the total quantity of institutions sites maintain publication repositories. At the same time, most of them include a small number of objects, or limited by the chronological framework. The search capabilities of repositories have been covered, as well as tools for managing search results. It has been determined that repositories mostly provide simple and advanced options for information retrieval, with the ability to use Boolean operators, endings shortening, faceted navigation, ranking search results. It has been found that not all repositories are equipped with instructions and recommendations on searching in them, which makes it difficult for inexperienced users to operate them.It has been revealed that the repository texts are provided with bibliographic metadata: as a rule, they are the author, the title, the imprint, and the source. However, some of them present more extended information: the detailed annotation, the abstract, the picture of the cover. The repositories are not equipped with linguistic tools, which prevents effective information search. It has been noted that the repositories studied are difficult to be found for a remote user. It is necessary to ensure their visibility, to provide information about existing repositories to potential users. In the conclusion, the benefits of creating repositories are enumerated: strengthening the authority of the institution, increasing the demand for library information resources, ensuring the visibility and accessibility of scientific and educational materials, and accelerating the knowledge exchange.

Abstract

In the sphere of higher education electronic library systems (ELS) – external or internal, – acquired to the library collections, are the basic digital educational resources. Their qualitative characteristics are not normatively defined, but are related to similar characteristics of individual electronic documents. The predominant number of electronic EBS documents are derivative electronic publications that completely copy the printed analogue. The form and method of organizing the text of such documents does not take into account the specifi                                                                                          of scanning reading, which is characteristic of modern students. The importance of electronic resources in the information support of the educational process in universities necessitates the study of digital educational reading, which will increase their effectiveness. To test the hypothesis, starting from the 2021/2022 academic year at the Bashkir Institute of Physical Culture (Bashkortostan, Ufa), the study is being conducted among full-time and part-time students, the purpose of which is to compare the effectiveness of reading educational printed and electronic publications. Quantitative research methods are indicators “reading time” and “number of keywords”. Writing abstracts has become a qualitative indicator for to study the reading comprehension. Up to 01.03.2022, 73 students took part in the study. The analysis of the results showed that the speed of reading electronic texts is higher if compared to reading printed publications. But the indicators of meaningful perception are higher among students reading printed text. The purpose of the article is to present the results of the research that may be taken into account and will become useful when organizing the educational process.

Abstract

Book communication has changed considerably caused by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and restrictive measures in order to minimize its spread. It has manifested itself in isolation of people from each other, including self-isolation, and the predominance of the online format over alternative ways of activity (mixed and offline format). The article examines interests and motivation of readers during the pandemic period in the book social networks in order to determine the features of readers’ preferences when implementing social reading in the Russian and English Internet environments. To achieve the aim, the following tasks have been set: 1) to find relevant (i. e. with up-to-date information on them and with at least a million users) Russian and English book social networks that provide the opportunity for book communication; 2) tto analyze social reading on the selected networks; 3) to compare the obtained data in accordance with the certain criteria. The book social networks LiveLib and BookMix have been chosen as the material for the analysis of the Russian-language segment of the Internet, and the book social network Goodreads and the LibraryThing web application – to analyze the English part of the Internet. This material has been considered according to the following criteria: 1) genre and themes of books discussed on the online platforms; 2) motivation and expectations of book readers when choosing a certain kind of literature during the period under study. To determine the peculiarities of Russian-speaking and English-speaking readers, discussing books they have read in the Internet, methods of comparative analyses of the data obtained from both Internet segments and their generalization have been used.

Abstract

The popularization of local history knowledge, based on the fund of materials about the native land that is being formed by local libraries, includes the use of new information and online technologies. The format of the street audio tour allows the library to get closer to the user, such a tour is «a historian in your pocket». The purpose of this text (based on the experience of creating street audio tours by the our department of local history) is to outline both the real obstacles in creating an audio tour and the underestimated resources of libraries.
So, for example, when preparing an audio tour, the libraries' own information resources may be underestimated. But relying on the local history fund the library has every opportunity to create a high quality excursion product. Especially noteworthy resources are the collections of periodicals, city directories and phonebooks  of past years, which allow checking the facts and raising the degree of reliability of the tour.
At the same time, one should not overestimate the competencies required for creating an audio tour, including those related to writing texts and working with audio recordings. The advantage of a guide created by non-pros is the possibility of creating an almost intimate one-to-one story. At the same time, librarians undoubtedly need both methodological support and technical advice.

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to present the first results of application of group dynamics methods in the Irkutsk regional library network as a tool for developing libraries personnel potential. In September 2021, a group of specialists of the Irkutsk Regional State Library – representatives of the administration, the scientificmethodological department, the department of cultural programs and the user service department – united into a core group, which started working on methods of group dynamics. The group identified a range of problems of libraries in the Irkutsk region, set goals and tasks for the development of the regional library and the library network of the Irkutsk region, formulated the mission of its activities, created the image of the future of the regional library network, and developed a roadmap for achieving this image of the future. The group expects to work for three years. Having mastered the methods of group dynamics in the ontological school version of “T-System” company and developed shared goals, values and rules, the group members define their functional areas and then form the «group of groups»: specialists from the Irkutsk Regional State Library or from the network of regional libraries and together continue the transformation of the library network. The first results of the group work have been obtained: methods of group dynamics allows to settle to solve complex collective tasks, to create projects of higher quality and degree of elaboration, to hold high-quality operational meetings with a large number of discussed issues. The work on implementing methods of group dynamics into the library network of the Irkutsk region as the instrument of developing the library stuff potential will be continued.

Abstract

The article presents the bibliographic database “Türks of Siberia (book editions)”, on which base an eponymous index was formed. The resources were generated within the framework of the Otrar electronic library project curated by the YERTAD Association of History and Culture of the Republic of Turkey. While creating the database and index, the task was to show publications devoted to particular Turkic peoples and their subjects. Thus, the DB documents were indexed by two rubricators: topical and subject, where the subject headings were the Turkic people names including all variants of peoples’ names reflected in publications (above 50 nations). Combining bibliographic resources on Siberian Türks in the form of a database and a printed bibliographic index allows the consumer to view in full the information on the topic accessible to different categories of users. The article analyzes a documentary flow on linguistics of DB “Türks of Siberia (book editions)” with the objectives to characterize publications (dictionaries, monographs, textbooks) on studying the linguistic culture of Siberian Turkic peoples (Yakuts, Tuvans, Altaians, Khakasses, Shors, Siberian Tatars, Dolgans, Kumanlins, Telets, Chelkans, Tofalars of the Chulyms). The analysis showed rather huge volume of book editions on linguistics (over 36% of the total number of publications). Scientific institutes of the relevant profile and universities investigate language and prepare publications on linguistics. The authors state that studying languages of almost all Siberian Turkic peoples is provided with appropriate book editions.

Abstract

The dynamics of the society and information technologies evolution has a significant impact on all spheres of human life, allowing to develop and expand the range of services provided. This trend is also typical for the library field of activity, where the range of services provided to users is also growing; it actualizes essence and meaning studies of the term “library and information service”. The purpose of the article is to consider the main approaches to the term “library and information service”, taking into account the influence of information technologies and sociocultural factors on the society. To achieve this goal, the analysis of the most famous and frequently encountered 31 concepts has been carried out. The presented definitions are reflected in the current GOSTs for librarianship, current reference and educational literature, as well as in the author’s interpretations of librarians. The analysis has showed that scientists have been revising approaches to the term for many years, but there is still no comprehensive formulation revealing the latest achievements and the essence of library and information services. The terminological analysis has made it possible to identify the genesis of library innovations and to predict the direction of changes in the field of library and information services. It has been concluded that library services are multifaceted actions aimed not only at meeting the user’s needs in various library, information, sociocultural requests in the online and offline space, but also at providing for temporary use the unique equipment for self-realization of one’s creative and educational potential.
